1. Define the geographic brief before selecting stories
Sheridan city and Sheridan County are different geographic descriptions. The Census record identifies Sheridan city as a municipality in Sheridan County; it does not establish the reach of a Sheridan law firm or show that people in the county search for legal help. Bosseo’s public Legal News text describes monitoring local and national legal-news sources for a state and matching stories to practice areas. That makes geographic scope an early decision, not a detail to add after publication. A firm should decide whether a page is intended for people in Sheridan, people elsewhere in Sheridan County, or a broader Wyoming audience. It should also decide when a statewide story is relevant enough to merit the firm’s name.
Recommended approach
Bring a written geographic policy to the consultation. Separate city, county, statewide and other service areas, and require each proposed page to identify the intended audience without implying that the Census population represents demand.
