1. Define the geographic boundary before reviewing story coverage
Your firm should decide whether Legal News is intended to address Tacoma only, Pierce County, Washington, or a broader area your practice actually serves. The Census record identifies Tacoma city as a municipality and records its county relationship as Pierce County. Those are different geographic relationships: a Tacoma page is not automatically a Pierce County page, and a Washington-wide story is not automatically locally relevant. Bosseo’s public Legal News description says stories are matched to a firm’s practice areas and state. That makes geographic scoping a necessary consultation question. Ask how a proposed page will identify the affected area, whether the wording should name Tacoma, Pierce County or Washington, and whether a story’s relevance depends on a local incident, a state law or both.
Recommended approach
Create a written geographic rule for approval. Include the places your firm serves, the places it does not claim to serve, and the circumstances in which statewide coverage is useful. Do not use Tacoma’s population estimate as a forecast of article demand or case volume.
