1. Define the geographic brief before evaluating coverage
Bosseo’s public Legal News description says its system monitors local and national legal-news sources for a firm’s state and matches stories to practice areas. For a DuPont firm, that means the first decision is not whether every story is “local.” It is whether the firm wants coverage framed for DuPont, Pierce County, Washington, or a combination of those areas. DuPont’s county relationship is Pierce County; it should not be silently broadened to another county or metropolitan area. The Census population record can identify the municipality and its size, but it cannot establish which stories residents search for or whether a topic will produce a qualified inquiry.
Recommended approach
Write a geographic brief that names DuPont, Pierce County and Washington separately. Specify which areas the firm serves, which locations may appear in an article, and which locations require attorney approval. Ask Bosseo to explain how geographic relevance is reviewed before publication.
