1. Define the geographic lens before reading the numbers
Dulles Town Center is a census-designated place in Loudoun County, Virginia. The Census estimate describes the CDP’s population, not the total market a law firm may serve. A firm may serve people located in the CDP, elsewhere in Loudoun County, or in other places, but the dashboard should not blur those geographies. A city, county, metropolitan area, household and individual are different reporting units. If a dashboard shows city or case-type data, you need a precise definition of what the label means before using it in a budget meeting.
Recommended approach
Ask Bosseo to show how location labels are defined in the dashboard and how you would distinguish Dulles Town Center from Loudoun County and any broader service area. Treat the Census geography as a boundary reference, not as a forecast. Acceptance should require a written geographic convention that partners and intake staff can interpret consistently.
