1. Define what “local” means before reviewing story coverage
The Census record identifies Essex as a municipal town in Chittenden County, Vermont. That does not make Essex, Chittenden County, the broader Vermont market or any metropolitan area interchangeable. A story involving Essex may be relevant because of the incident location, while a statewide Vermont law change may be relevant because it affects the firm’s clients. Those are different editorial relationships and should not be presented as the same geographic target. Bosseo’s public Legal News description says stories are matched to a firm’s practice areas and state. It does not establish that every Essex story, Chittenden County story or Vermont story will be selected, indexed or searched.
Recommended approach
At the consultation, ask Bosseo to distinguish town, county and statewide coverage. Agree on which geographic connections justify a page: an event in Essex, a Chittenden County development, a Vermont legal change or another relationship your firm can explain accurately. Keep population as eligibility context only, not as a demand forecast.
