Define the geographic question before reviewing the numbers
Houston is recorded as a municipality. The 2020–2024 ACS five-year estimate lists 2,328,253 people for Houston city, with a margin of error of 196. The same record identifies relationships with Fort Bend County, Harris County, Montgomery County and Waller County. That geographic distinction matters: Houston city, a county, a metropolitan area, a household and an individual are not interchangeable reporting units. Population alone does not establish legal demand, search volume, competition, leads, matters or revenue. The dashboard page says firms can review case-type and city data, including which cities produce calls. A Houston firm should therefore decide whether its reporting question concerns Houston city, a named county, a service area or another defined target before treating a location trend as actionable.
Recommended approach
Bring a written list of the locations your firm actually serves and separate Houston from each county or other service area. During the consultation, ask how a location is assigned to a ranking, call, form or lead and what happens when a person’s location is unknown. Accept a geographic view only when its definitions match the firm’s intake and marketing decisions.
