1. Define what “local” means before news coverage is planned
Middle Valley is a CDP in Hamilton County, not a synonym for every nearby community or for the entire Chattanooga metropolitan area. The Census record identifies the place and its county relationship; it does not establish where a law firm may ethically or practically accept matters. That distinction matters for Legal News. A story may be relevant to Tennessee law but not specifically to Middle Valley. Another may concern Hamilton County while raising questions for people outside the firm’s intended service area. Before approving coverage, separate the place served, the county served, the state-law topics handled and any wider geographic area the firm actually wants to address. Bosseo’s public Legal News description says its monitoring is matched to a firm’s practice areas and state. A consultation should determine how the firm’s Middle Valley and Hamilton County scope would be represented, rather than treating the population estimate as proof that news pages will attract inquiries.
Recommended approach
Prepare a written geographic policy for review: Middle Valley, Hamilton County, Tennessee statewide topics and any additional area the firm intentionally serves. Ask how each proposed page will reflect that policy and when a story should be skipped.
