1. Start with the geographic facts your firm actually serves
The U.S. Census Bureau records Sioux Falls city as a municipality in South Dakota. Its 2020–2024 ACS 5-year population estimate is 201,469, with a margin of error of 92. The city has recorded relationships with Lincoln County and Minnehaha County. Those facts establish the place and its county relationships; they do not show that a particular practice area has demand, that competitors are strong or weak, or that an AI engine will recommend any firm. Your site should therefore distinguish Sioux Falls city from countywide service, the broader metropolitan area, and statewide work. A page that says only “South Dakota” may be too broad for a city-specific question. A page that implies coverage beyond your actual service area may be inaccurate.
Recommended approach
Review every location statement against the areas your firm genuinely serves. Ask whether a prospective client can tell the difference between your Sioux Falls office or service area, work in Lincoln County, work in Minnehaha County, and matters accepted elsewhere in South Dakota. Treat population as eligibility context, not as a forecast.
