1. Set the geographic boundary before reviewing stories
A Florence firm may describe its service area by municipality, county, state or a combination of those areas. Those are not interchangeable. Florence city is a municipality, while Darlington County and Florence County are recorded county relationships. A page about a South Carolina statute has a different scope from a page about an incident in Florence or a case tied to a particular county. Bosseo’s public Legal News description says stories are matched to the firm’s practice areas and state. It does not establish a custom geographic configuration for every firm.
Recommended approach
At the consultation, define the locations you want reviewed and the locations you do not want implied. Decide whether a story should be considered because it occurred in Florence, elsewhere in Florence County, in Darlington County, or anywhere in South Carolina. Review headlines and calls to action for geographic accuracy before publication. Do not use the city’s population estimate as a substitute for evidence about who searches or contacts your firm.
