1. Start with the service area, not the population estimate
The U.S. Census Bureau records Williams as a municipal town in Pennsylvania’s Northampton County. Its 2020–2024 ACS five-year population estimate is 6,589, with a margin of error of 26. That is geographic and demographic context only. It does not establish legal demand, search volume, competition, lead volume or revenue. A Williams firm may serve clients beyond the township, while a firm located elsewhere may serve Williams. Legal News therefore needs a deliberate geographic review: which counties, municipalities, courts, highways, agencies or statewide issues are genuinely relevant to the firm’s clients?
Recommended approach
Define the firm’s service territory separately from Williams township and Northampton County. Then review whether proposed coverage should address a statewide Pennsylvania development, a Northampton County matter, or an event tied to a narrower community. Do not treat the township population as a forecast. Treat it as one boundary-setting fact when deciding which audiences and stories deserve attorney review.
