1. Start with the geography your firm actually serves
Spring is recorded as a municipal-town in Centre County, Pennsylvania. A firm may serve people in Spring, the wider county, or other Pennsylvania locations, but those are different geographic questions. Attribution should therefore preserve the location represented by a visit or inquiry instead of treating “local” as a single undifferentiated category. The Census population estimate can help define the place under review; it cannot establish how many people search for legal services or how many will contact a firm.
Recommended approach
Before judging a source, decide which geographic distinctions matter to your practice: Spring township, Centre County, Pennsylvania, or another service area. Ask whether your reporting can separate those areas and whether the inquiry’s location is captured consistently. Review the answer alongside practice area and outcome data rather than using population as a forecast.
