1. Start with the geographic question your firm actually needs answered
A Bethlehem firm may serve clients in the city, elsewhere in Lehigh County, elsewhere in Northampton County, across Pennsylvania, or in a combination of those areas. The Census record identifies Bethlehem city as a municipality and records relationships with Lehigh County and Northampton County. It does not establish where prospective clients search, where matters originate or which geography produces revenue. That distinction matters when a dashboard groups rankings, calls, leads or matters by location. A broad Pennsylvania view can conceal a local change; a city-only view can omit a viable service area.
Recommended approach
Before evaluating the dashboard, write down the geographic questions partners expect it to answer. Decide whether the firm needs separate views for Bethlehem, each county, other Pennsylvania locations or a wider service area. Ask how geography is assigned to a keyword, call, form, lead and matter, and what happens when a person’s location is unknown. Treat the Census population as context for the municipality, not as a forecast or target.
