1. Start with Salem’s geographic boundary
The Census record identifies Salem city as a municipality in Oregon and reports a 2020–2024 ACS five-year population estimate of 178,865, with a margin of error of 60. It records relationships with Marion County and Polk County. That establishes a geographic frame, not a forecast of legal demand, competition, calls, cases or revenue. A dashboard should therefore make geography explicit rather than presenting every nearby contact as a Salem result. Ask whether a city, county or other area label is attached to rankings, calls, forms, intakes and attributed leads. Also ask how the firm will distinguish a person located in Salem from a matter that serves Marion or Polk County more broadly.
Recommended approach
Use a written geographic convention before reviewing performance. Decide which labels matter to your firm—Salem city, Marion County, Polk County or another service area—and require those labels to remain distinct in views and discussions. Treat the Salem population figure as eligibility context for evaluating a local measurement system, never as proof that a practice area has demand or that a marketing investment will produce matters.
