1. Put Salem geography in the right measurement frame
Salem’s municipal geography has a direct effect on how you should read location-level reporting. The Census record identifies Salem city and its relationships with Columbiana County and Mahoning County; it does not say that every inquiry from either county is a Salem inquiry, or that every Salem inquiry is a resident of the city. A useful attribution review should therefore distinguish the location information your firm elects to collect from the marketing source that produced the inquiry. Do not use the city’s population estimate as a proxy for search demand, legal need, competition or likely case volume.
Recommended approach
During a consultation, define the geographic labels your firm wants to review—such as Salem city, Columbiana County, Mahoning County, Ohio, or another service area—and ask how those labels will be separated from channel, landing page and case type. Keep geography and attribution as different fields so a county relationship is not mistaken for a source of business.
