1. Define the geography before judging performance
A location label can conceal an important measurement decision. Mount Airy city and Surry County are not interchangeable geographic scopes, and neither is automatically the same as a broader service area. The Census records Mount Airy as a municipality in Surry County. For a firm serving people in and around Mount Airy, the dashboard conversation should therefore begin with the locations the firm actually wants to evaluate. Do not use the city’s population estimate as a forecast of inquiries or signed matters. Instead, ask how city data, county data and any other approved service locations would be named and separated in reporting. Bosseo’s public ROI Dashboard page says the dashboard can show case-type and city data and track service-and-city keyword targets. The consultation should establish what those labels mean for this firm and which geographic comparisons would be useful.
Recommended approach
Ask for a written geographic definition for every tracked target: Mount Airy city, Surry County, or another area selected by the firm. Treat any local population figure as context only. Do not approve a dashboard view until the firm can tell whether a city, county, page, call or matter is being counted.
