1. Start with the service area you can actually handle
Charlotte city and Mecklenburg County are related but not interchangeable geographic labels. The Census record identifies Charlotte as a municipality and records its county relationship as Mecklenburg County. That distinction matters when you decide whether an LSA profile should represent Charlotte, surrounding service areas, or both. A broad target can create inquiries your firm does not want; a narrow target can exclude people you intend to serve. Population establishes the scale of the named place, but it does not establish demand or the number of competing firms.
Recommended approach
List the counties, cities and service boundaries your firm will accept before changing targeting. Separate the location of the office, the location of the prospective client and any court or service-area limits that affect eligibility. Review each practice area independently rather than assuming one geographic setting fits every matter.
