1. Establish the geographic frame before reading the numbers
The U.S. Census Bureau records Southport as a census-designated place in Chemung County, New York. Its 2020–2024 ACS five-year population estimate is 6,450, with a margin of error of 298. That figure describes the Southport CDP population; it does not establish legal demand, search activity, competition, calls, cases or revenue. A dashboard review should therefore distinguish Southport from Chemung County and from any wider service area your firm chooses to track. Ask which geographic label belongs to each keyword, call, form and matter. A city or place attached to a lead should not silently become proof that the lead came from Southport.
Recommended approach
During the consultation, write down the geographic definitions you want to use. Review whether the dashboard can display the locations you actually manage, and decide how to handle people who live outside Southport but contact a firm serving Southport. Treat the Census population as context for scope, not as a performance benchmark.
