Start with the geography your firm actually serves
The U.S. Census Bureau records Schenectady city as a municipality in Schenectady County. Its 2020–2024 ACS five-year population estimate is 68,847, with a margin of error of 39. That figure describes the city population; it does not establish legal demand, search activity, competition, leads or revenue. A dashboard review should therefore distinguish Schenectady city from the wider county and from any other service area your firm chooses to track. A city label in a report is not enough if your intake team uses a different definition of a local matter.
Recommended approach
Before reviewing performance, write down the geographic definitions you want to see in the dashboard. Ask whether city and county activity can be separated in the views available to your firm, and decide which location descriptions belong in your own lead and matter records. Treat population as context for scope, not as a forecast.
