1. Define what “local” means before coverage begins
The U.S. Census Bureau records Saratoga as a municipal town in Saratoga County, New York. A Saratoga-focused firm should therefore decide whether its intended audience is the town, the wider county, New York generally, or another service area it can lawfully and practically serve. Those are different editorial choices. A story about a statewide legal change may be relevant to a Saratoga practice, while an incident in Saratoga may require careful wording about what is known, what remains alleged, and which court or agency has authority. Population cannot answer those questions.
Recommended approach
Create a geographic policy before approving pages. Separate town-specific coverage from Saratoga County and statewide coverage, and require each page to identify the relevant jurisdiction accurately. Review whether the call to action fits the people the firm actually wants to hear from.
