1. Start with the service area, not the population estimate
A Rensselaer firm may serve clients in the city, elsewhere in Rensselaer County, or in additional New York locations. Those are different geographic questions. The Census record identifies Rensselaer city and its county relationship; it does not show where a firm’s clients live or where prospective clients search. Reputation decisions should therefore begin with the firm’s stated service area and the coverage shown on its Google Business Profile and website. A review from a real client can support credibility, but it should not be presented as proof that every nearby community is part of the firm’s market.
Recommended approach
Document the locations and matter types the firm intentionally serves. Then review whether public profiles and review-request language represent that scope accurately. Keep Rensselaer city, Rensselaer County, and New York as separate geographic references wherever the distinction matters. Treat any decision about broader coverage as a firm choice to review, not as an inference from population.
