1. Start with the service area, not a population assumption
Mastic CDP is in Suffolk County, New York. The Census Bureau’s 2020–2024 ACS 5-year estimate records 15,708 residents, with a margin of error of 1,317. That figure can help define the geographic context for a consultation, but it cannot establish how many people need legal help, how many will visit your site, or which matters your firm should accept. Households, individuals and the CDP itself are different geographic and demographic units. A firm may also serve clients beyond Mastic, so the intake should reflect the territory the firm actually accepts rather than treating Mastic as a proxy for its entire market.
Recommended approach
List the places and service boundaries your firm truly serves, then decide whether the intake should ask for location, route by location, or leave geography for a later conversation. Review Mastic and Suffolk County as part of that decision, without using population as a forecast.
