1. Start with the geographic boundary, not a page count
Bosseo describes two geographic approaches: statewide coverage or a footprint limited to selected counties. Kirkland’s recorded county relationship is Oneida County, so a firm serving Kirkland should first decide whether Oneida County accurately reflects its service area. A county boundary may be too broad for a practice that accepts matters only from particular communities, and it may be too narrow for a firm that routinely handles matters elsewhere in New York. Kirkland’s municipal-town status also matters: a page should identify the place accurately rather than treating a town, county, metropolitan area and state as interchangeable. The ACS population estimate is useful for confirming the town’s scale, but it does not justify publishing pages for every nearby location.
Recommended approach
Ask Bosseo to model at least two footprints for review: Kirkland and Oneida County, and the broader geographic area the firm actually serves. Select the narrower option unless the firm can explain why the wider area is professionally appropriate and operationally supportable.
