Use Portales and Roosevelt County to define the review boundary
Your firm may describe its service area as Portales, Roosevelt County, or a broader New Mexico area. Those are not interchangeable audiences. Portales is recorded as a municipality, and its county relationship is Roosevelt County. Before reviewing intake performance, decide which calls belong in the analysis: calls from Portales, calls connected to Roosevelt County, calls from elsewhere in New Mexico, or all calls handled by the firm. The local population estimate gives geographic context, but it cannot tell you how many people will contact a law firm or what kinds of matters they may bring.
Recommended approach
Bring a written geographic policy to the consultation. Identify which locations your firm serves, which locations require attorney review, and which locations should be referred or declined. Then use those boundaries when evaluating qualification and escalation rather than treating every Portales or Roosevelt County caller as an automatic fit.
