Start with the Las Cruces service area, not a population claim
Las Cruces is a municipality in Doña Ana County. That relationship matters when you define the profile and service area you want to evaluate. A firm may serve clients in the city, elsewhere in Doña Ana County, or across a broader New Mexico practice area. Those are different geographic choices. The city's ACS population estimate does not establish demand for a particular legal service, the number of competing firms, or the number of people who use Google to choose counsel.
Recommended approach
Before a consultation, identify the locations your firm intentionally serves and the Google Business Profile associated with that service area. Review whether your public description, contact details, practice information, and client-facing language accurately reflect that scope. Do not expand the geographic claim merely because a nearby place appears in a search or because population data is available.
