1. Make Oakland and Bergen County part of the coverage decision
Bosseo’s public Legal News description says its monitoring is organized around a firm’s state and practice areas. The firm still has to decide what geographic relationship each page should explain. Oakland is in Bergen County, but an Oakland practice may serve a narrower local area, the wider county, or clients elsewhere in New Jersey. Those are different editorial choices. A page about a statewide legal development should not imply that every reader is an Oakland resident. A page about a Bergen County event should not automatically be presented as an Oakland matter. The borough’s population estimate is useful for identifying the municipality being served, but it cannot establish that a particular story will attract searches or inquiries.
Recommended approach
Create written geographic rules before approving pages: Oakland, Bergen County, other named New Jersey locations, and statewide coverage should each have a defined use. Ask whether the firm wants a story to explain local procedure, county relevance, statewide law, or only the practice-area issue. Keep those relationships explicit in the headline, opening, and call to action when the underlying story supports them.
