1. Start with the geographic definition, not the headline number
The Census record identifies Delran township as a municipal-town in Burlington County, New Jersey. Its population estimate is useful for describing the place, but it cannot tell you how many people search for a lawyer, which practice areas are active, or whether a marketing channel produces signed matters. A dashboard becomes more useful when its geographic labels match the decisions your firm actually makes. Delran may be one service area among several; Burlington County, New Jersey and a metropolitan area are not interchangeable labels.
Recommended approach
During a review, list the geographic units that matter to your firm and decide which should appear in reporting. Ask whether a city or county label refers to a ranking target, a call location, a landing-page location or a matter’s service area. Do not treat the Delran population estimate as a forecast. Treat it as context for naming and reviewing the geography.
