1. Set the geographic boundary before reading the numbers
A Barnegat law firm may describe its service area in several ways: Barnegat township, Ocean County, New Jersey or additional communities. Those labels are not interchangeable. The Census record identifies Barnegat township as a municipal-town in Ocean County, New Jersey, with a 2020–2024 ACS 5-year population estimate of 25,165. The figure is useful for naming the local market under review, but it cannot be converted into demand or prospective-client volume. In the dashboard, a city or county label should therefore be treated as a measurement definition, not as proof that a particular level of business exists.
Recommended approach
Before evaluating performance, write down the exact geographic targets your firm wants to review. Separate Barnegat from Ocean County and from statewide New Jersey reporting. Ask how rankings, calls and leads will be attributed when a person searches from outside Barnegat or when a page serves more than one community. Require the dashboard review to show which geographic label belongs to each metric.
