1. Set the geographic boundary before judging a source
Durham is recorded as a census-designated place in Strafford County, New Hampshire. The 2020–2024 American Community Survey five-year estimate records 10,681 residents, with a margin of error of 508. That is population eligibility context, not proof of legal demand, search activity, competition, inquiries or cases. It also does not establish whether a particular inquiry came from Durham, elsewhere in Strafford County, another New Hampshire community or outside the state. Attribution therefore needs a place field or intake question that your firm defines and uses consistently. A Durham matter and a matter from the broader county should not be treated as the same geographic result merely because the firm serves both.
Recommended approach
During a consultation, decide which geographic distinctions matter to your practice and how they should appear in intake records. Review whether location is captured as part of the inquiry, whether it is verified later, and whether reports can be read without confusing Durham CDP, Strafford County and New Hampshire. Do not use the population estimate as a forecast of leads or cases.
