1. Start with the geographic question your records can answer
A firm serving Alton may receive inquiries from people in town, elsewhere in Belknap County or outside the immediate area. Those are different audiences, and a population estimate for Alton cannot tell you how many will contact a law firm. Lead Attribution should therefore be evaluated around record-level evidence: where a person entered the site, which page they visited, what channel referred them and what they said during intake. The useful question is not “How many people live here?” It is “Can we connect an individual inquiry to a documented journey and a qualification outcome?”
Recommended approach
Before changing marketing allocation, define the geographic labels your firm wants to review. Keep Alton, Belknap County and New Hampshire separate in reporting, and decide how your team will handle inquiries whose location is unknown. Treat any conclusion about local demand as a question to test, not as a result implied by Census population data.
