1. Set the geographic boundary before changing pages
The Census record identifies St. Louis city as a municipality and records its county relationship as St. Louis city. It does not establish that a firm serves the surrounding county, the wider metropolitan area or all of Missouri. Those are different geographic claims. Your site should therefore distinguish St. Louis city from any additional places your firm actually serves. A page that blurs city, county and metropolitan coverage can make it harder for both people and search systems to understand where your services apply.
Recommended approach
Begin with a service-area review. List the locations your firm intentionally serves, identify which practice areas apply in each location, and remove wording that implies broader coverage than the firm can support. Treat the 288,512 population estimate as context for the municipality only, not as a reason to predict demand or expand coverage.
