1. Set the geographic boundary before reviewing the numbers
The Census record identifies Medina city as a municipality in Hennepin County. A dashboard may show city, county, state or other location views, but those geographic levels answer different questions. A Medina city view should not automatically be treated as a Hennepin County view, and neither should be presented as Minnesota-wide performance. The population estimate of 6,968 is not a forecast of legal demand or a measure of the number of potential clients. Ask how locations are defined in the reporting view, how a city is associated with a lead, and whether the firm can distinguish a person’s location from the location of a search, call or service page.
Recommended approach
During a consultation, ask Bosseo to show how geographic labels are represented and which location fields are available. Establish a written rule for Medina, Hennepin County and Minnesota reporting before using location data in a marketing or intake decision.
