1. Start with the geographic boundary, not a population assumption
The Census record identifies Otsego township as a municipal-town in Allegan County, Michigan. That relationship matters when you decide what the intake should ask about location. A visitor may be in Otsego township, elsewhere in Allegan County, or outside the firm’s service area. Those are different facts and should not be collapsed into a generic “local” lead category. The population estimate of 5,962 is useful as geographic context, but it cannot establish search demand, competition, call volume, case volume or staffing requirements.
Recommended approach
Define an acceptable service-area rule before writing the survey. Review whether location should be a qualification question, a routing field, or a later human review. Keep Otsego township and Allegan County distinct in the firm’s internal records, and decide how inquiries outside the chosen boundary should be handled.
