1. Define the geographic boundary before selecting stories
Monroe city and Monroe County are not interchangeable labels. The Census record identifies Monroe city as a municipality and places it in Monroe County. A story about an incident in the city, a matter elsewhere in Monroe County, and a development elsewhere in Michigan carry different geographic meanings. Bosseo’s public Legal News page describes monitoring local and national legal-news sources for a firm’s state and matching stories to practice areas. That capability makes geographic review a central buying question: can your firm distinguish Michigan-wide legal developments from matters that genuinely concern Monroe or Monroe County?
Recommended approach
Ask to review how proposed coverage will identify the relevant place, jurisdiction, agency, court, or rule. Keep Monroe city, Monroe County, and Michigan-wide subjects separate in headlines, explanations, and calls to action. Do not use the city’s population estimate to select topics or predict inquiries.
