1. Start with the geography your firm actually serves
Lansing is recorded as a municipality in Michigan. The 2020–2024 ACS five-year estimate lists 113,023 residents, with a margin of error of 114, and records relationships with Clinton County, Eaton County, and Ingham County. That establishes a place and its county relationships; it does not establish legal demand, competition, search volume, leads, cases, or revenue. Your firm may serve Lansing alone, one or more of those counties, a wider Michigan area, or a different service footprint. Those choices should control which news stories are relevant. A page about a Michigan appellate decision may be useful statewide, while a page about an incident should use a geographic description only when it is accurate and appropriate. Bosseo’s public Legal News page describes monitoring local and national legal-news sources for a firm’s state and matching stories to practice areas. It does not establish a Lansing-specific coverage result.
Recommended approach
Bring a written service map to the consultation. Separate Lansing, Clinton County, Eaton County, Ingham County, metropolitan coverage, and statewide work. Ask how geographic relevance is reviewed before publication and which locations the firm may name on a page.
