1. Start with Columbia’s actual service geography
The U.S. Census Bureau records Columbia township as a municipal-town in Jackson County, Michigan, with a 2020–2024 ACS five-year population estimate of 7,433 and a margin of error of 28. That is a description of the place, not evidence of legal demand, search volume, competition, lead volume or revenue. It also does not establish that a prospective client lives in Columbia rather than elsewhere in Jackson County or another part of Michigan. Attribution therefore should not treat “Columbia” as a complete market definition. The important question is how your firm records the geographic context of an inquiry: the municipality or county named by the prospective client, the location served by the matter, and the page or campaign that generated the contact.
Recommended approach
Before adopting any reporting setup, define the geographic fields your firm actually needs. Decide whether reporting should separate Columbia township from Jackson County and broader Michigan service areas. Keep those distinctions visible when reviewing leads; do not use the township’s population as a proxy for demand or staffing.
