1. Set the geographic boundary before you design the questions
Your firm may describe its service area as Fruitland, Wicomico County, Maryland, or a wider territory. Those labels are not interchangeable. Fruitland is recorded as a municipality, and its county relationship is Wicomico County. A useful intake path should therefore make location meaningful: ask where the matter arose or where the prospective client is located when that affects eligibility, venue, travel or ownership. Do not treat Fruitland’s population estimate as evidence that a particular practice area has demand. Treat it as a reference point for deciding which geographic distinctions the intake should capture.
Recommended approach
Write down the exact locations your firm serves and the locations that require review or referral. Then decide whether a Fruitland answer should route directly to your team, prompt a county-level review, or trigger an escalation question. Keep the wording factual and avoid implying that the firm accepts every matter from the city or county unless that is your policy.
