1. Define the Youngsville geography before reading a number
A dashboard can become misleading when a firm treats Youngsville, Lafayette Parish, Louisiana and a broader service area as interchangeable. Youngsville is recorded as a municipality, and its county relationship is Lafayette Parish. Those are distinct geographic relationships. A ranking, call, lead or matter should therefore be interpreted against a clearly stated target area rather than an undefined label such as “local.” Population is useful for identifying the place being discussed, but it is not evidence that people are searching for a particular legal service or that a marketing channel will produce cases.
Recommended approach
Before evaluating the product, write down which locations your firm wants to review and how each location should appear in reporting. Ask whether city, parish, state and service-area data should be separated. Then decide whether a location field means the search target, the caller’s location, the address associated with a form or the matter’s service geography. Those definitions will affect every later comparison.
