1. Start with the geography your firm actually serves
Dodge City is recorded as a municipality in Ford County, Kansas. That distinction matters when you decide how the dashboard should identify a location. “Dodge City,” “Ford County,” and Kansas are not interchangeable reporting scopes. A city target may describe a service page or tracked keyword; a county view may describe a broader service area. The dashboard page says it can show service-and-city targets and city data, but your firm still needs to decide which geographic labels belong in its own reporting. The Census population estimate provides context for Dodge City city, not proof that residents are searching, calling, retaining counsel or needing a particular practice area.
Recommended approach
Before adopting a reporting structure, write down the geographic scope for every target: Dodge City city, Ford County, another named area or Kansas. Ask to see how those scopes appear in rankings, lead records and source attribution. Do not use the population estimate as a forecast.
