1. Start with the service area, not a population assumption
Your firm may serve Winterset, Madison County, other Iowa communities, or a narrower geographic area. Those are different choices. The Census record identifies Winterset city and its relationship to Madison County, but it cannot show where your clients come from or which places should be represented in a review strategy. A reputation program should therefore distinguish the city from the county and from any wider area you intentionally serve. That distinction matters when you assess profile relevance, response language, intake questions and the source of qualified inquiries.
Recommended approach
Bring a defined service-area map to the consultation. Decide whether the program should be evaluated around Winterset alone, Madison County, or a broader Iowa footprint. Do not use the city’s population as a proxy for demand. Instead, compare the plan with your existing client records, Google Business Profile coverage and the locations your firm is prepared to serve.
