1. Set the geographic frame before reading the numbers
A Washington law firm may serve the city, Washington County, Iowa, or a wider area. Those are not interchangeable reporting boundaries. The Census record identifies Washington city as a municipality in Washington County; it does not establish legal need, search activity, competition, calls, cases or revenue. A useful dashboard therefore needs an agreed definition of which cities, counties and service areas belong in each view. Without that definition, a county result can be mistaken for a city result, or a broader Iowa result can be credited to Washington.
Recommended approach
Use the consultation to write down the geographic scope for every tracked service-and-city target. Ask whether the firm wants separate views for Washington, Washington County and other Iowa locations it actually serves. Treat the population estimate as eligibility context only, not as a forecast or performance benchmark.
