1. Start with the geographic record, not a demand assumption
The U.S. Census Bureau records Grinnell as a municipality in Poweshiek County. Its 2020–2024 ACS five-year population estimate is 9,505, with a margin of error of 52. That is geographic and population context only. It does not show how many people search for a lawyer, which practice areas are sought, how many inquiries a firm receives or whether a channel produces signed matters. For attribution, the practical consequence is narrower: your records should distinguish Grinnell from the wider Poweshiek County service area when location is relevant to a matter. A single “local lead” label may conceal whether an inquiry came from the city, another part of the county or outside the intended service area.
Recommended approach
Decide which geographic fields matter to intake and reporting. Review whether city and county are captured consistently, whether staff need a service-area check and whether reports should group Grinnell and Poweshiek County separately. Treat any location-based conclusion as a question for your own records, not as something the population estimate answers.
