1. Set the geographic boundary before reviewing stories
A DeWitt practice may serve clients in the city, elsewhere in Clinton County or across a broader Iowa territory. Those are different geographic choices. Bosseo’s public Legal News description says its system matches stories to a firm’s practice areas and state, while the example pages describe coverage at the state level. That makes geographic scope an early consultation question: should a page discuss an event in DeWitt, a Clinton County matter, an Iowa law change or a broader story relevant to the firm’s accepted cases? The Census record identifies DeWitt city and its Clinton County relationship, but it does not show where prospective clients search or where the firm should accept matters.
Recommended approach
Write down the firm’s actual service area, excluded areas and practice boundaries. Ask Bosseo to show how those boundaries would affect story selection and page wording. Do not treat DeWitt’s population as a forecast of Legal News demand.
