1. Start with the handoff, not the population
The Census records Ames city as a municipality in Story County and reports a 2020–2024 ACS five-year population estimate of 67,669, with a margin of error of 39. That is useful for defining the local service context, but it does not show how many people contact your firm or how quickly they expect a response. For Automation, the relevant evidence is inside your operation: website forms, calls, chats, video intakes, inboxes, CRM records, case-management records and calendars. Bosseo’s public Automation page describes a flow in which a lead is captured, logged and tagged, then routed and followed up. Review whether your current process leaves information in an inbox, requires duplicate entry or lacks a named owner.
Recommended approach
Map every current inquiry path that serves Ames and Story County. For each path, record the first destination, required fields, responsible person, next action and escalation point. Treat population as geographic eligibility evidence only; use your own intake records to decide whether automation addresses a real operational gap.
