1. Define the geographic brief before reviewing stories
La Porte city and LaPorte County are not interchangeable audiences. The Census record identifies La Porte city as a municipality and records its county relationship as LaPorte County. If your firm serves only the city, a page about a distant Indiana event may be weakly relevant. If your actual service area includes the county or a broader Indiana market, the same story may deserve review. Bosseo’s public Legal News page describes matching stories to a firm’s practice areas and state. It does not establish a particular La Porte, LaPorte County or metropolitan coverage configuration.
Recommended approach
Bring a written geographic brief to the consultation. State whether the intended audience is La Porte city, LaPorte County, Indiana, or another precisely defined area. Ask how that scope would affect story selection, page language, calls to action and reporting. Do not use the city’s population estimate as a forecast of readership or demand.
