Start with the geography your firm actually serves
The Census record identifies Salem city and its relationship to Marion County. It does not establish that every resident is a prospective client, that a particular practice area has demand, or that a Salem search produces a lead. A dashboard review should therefore distinguish Salem from Marion County and from any wider Illinois coverage your firm chooses to examine. The Bosseo page says the dashboard can show keyword coverage, city data, calls, leads and source attribution. Those labels are useful only when the firm agrees what counts as a target location and which contacts belong in the analysis.
Recommended approach
Bring a written service-area definition to the consultation. Ask to see how Salem, Marion County and any other locations would be separated in the reporting, and do not treat a population estimate as a forecast. If the firm serves clients beyond Salem, review those areas as separate geographic questions rather than combining them into one local total.
