1. Define what “local” means for your Peru practice
The Census record identifies Peru as a municipality in Illinois and records relationships with Bureau County and LaSalle County. Those are different geographic references: Peru is the named place, while the counties describe a broader relationship. A page about an incident in Peru should not automatically be framed as coverage for every person in both counties, and a county-level story should not be presented as a Peru-specific event without support. The population estimate of 9,775 describes the municipality during the 2020–2024 ACS period; it does not show how many people search for legal information or how many may contact a firm.
Recommended approach
At consultation, map the geographic boundaries your firm actually serves and separate Peru, Bureau County, LaSalle County, and any other areas the firm wishes to discuss. Then review whether a proposed news page would answer a local question, a county question, an Illinois question, or a broader legal question. Keep the location precise in titles, introductions, calls to action, and measurement labels. Do not use the population estimate as a forecast of content performance.
