1. Start with the geographic relationship, not a demand assumption
Your firm may describe its service area as Marengo, McHenry County, Illinois, or a combination of those areas. Those labels are not interchangeable. Marengo is a city, while McHenry County is the county relationship recorded for the city. A household, an individual, a website visitor and a legal inquiry are also different units. The Census population estimate gives context for the municipality; it does not show how many people search for counsel, how many need a particular practice, or how many will contact your office.
Recommended approach
Before reviewing attribution, define the geographic labels you want to evaluate in your own records. Decide whether a lead should be grouped by the person’s stated location, the page visited, the office’s service area or the matter’s venue. Keep Marengo and McHenry County separate when that distinction affects qualification, routing or reporting. Ask Bosseo how its proposed review would preserve those distinctions instead of collapsing every Illinois inquiry into one local category.
