1. Set the geographic frame before reading the numbers
The U.S. Census Bureau records Manhattan village as a municipality in Will County, Illinois. Its 2020–2024 ACS five-year population estimate is 11,026, with a margin of error of 463. That figure describes the municipality’s population estimate; it does not establish legal demand, search volume, competition, leads, cases or revenue. A dashboard review should therefore distinguish Manhattan village from Will County, Illinois and any metropolitan area your firm chooses to serve. A contact from outside Manhattan should not be silently counted as a Manhattan result simply because the firm is located there or advertises there. Ask how location is assigned: by landing-page intent, caller statement, intake record, matter address or another documented rule.
Recommended approach
Bring a written service-area definition to the consultation. Decide which geographic labels should appear in reports, which should be grouped, and which should remain separate. Treat the Census population record as context for the municipality—not as a forecast or performance target.
