1. Set the geographic boundary before choosing stories
Maili is recorded as a CDP in Honolulu County, Hawaii. A firm may serve Maili while also handling matters elsewhere in the county or state, but those are separate coverage decisions. A news page aimed at people in Maili should not automatically be written as though every Honolulu County resident, Hawaii resident or visitor has the same legal question. Likewise, the Maili population estimate does not establish that a particular story will generate searches or consultations. Bosseo’s public Legal News page describes monitoring local and national legal-news sources for a firm’s state and matching stories to practice areas. The practical question is whether your desired geographic scope is reflected in the topics you approve.
Recommended approach
Write down the places your firm actually wants to serve: Maili, a wider Honolulu County area, Hawaii, or another defined territory. During a consultation, ask how geographic relevance is represented in proposed pages and whether a story should be declined when its connection to Maili or your service area is weak.
