Use Hilo’s geography as context, not as a call-volume forecast
Hilo is recorded by the Census Bureau as a census-designated place in Hawaii County. The 2020–2024 ACS 5-year population estimate is 50,404, with a margin of error of 2,228. That is useful when defining the market your firm serves, but it cannot tell you how many people contact your office, which practice areas they need, or whether your team requires additional coverage. Hilo residents and people served across Hawaii County are not interchangeable geographic groups. Your intake review should therefore start with the firm’s actual service area and call records rather than a population-based assumption.
Recommended approach
At a consultation, identify whether your intake calls are primarily from Hilo, elsewhere in Hawaii County, or a wider Hawaii service area. Then decide whether call scoring should be reviewed by practice area, caller location, referral source, or another category your firm already records. Do not treat the Hilo population estimate as a demand or staffing model.
